Mobile security remains an issue of concern. And while the number of threats is often greater than the number of actual infections, this is not to be taken lightly. As Lookout has just pointed out in its last press release, 13 apps containing adware recently infiltrated the Play Store. Fortunately, the company is already on the job and is working hand in hand with Google to ensure their removal.
As you probably already know, adware is software, most often installed without the knowledge of the user, displaying pop-up ads and sometimes forcing him to open potentially dangerous web pages. Recently, Lookout has identified the presence of two adware families, HideIcon and NotFunny, respectively hidden within one and twelve applications.

As its name suggests, once installed on your smartphone, HideIcon will hide its own icon, thus making its removal more difficult and will display pop-up ads on your screen. For its part, Not Funny, which is often found in applications for Christmas ringtones or wallpapers, will encourage the user to download what is called the "payload" which is passed off most of the time for Facebook, asking for several permissions before hiding its icon.
Regarding risks, Lookout recalls the few best practices to adopt before downloading an application, such as reading the reviews of other users, downloading only titles offered by well-known publishers, using a security application, or reading the application permissions before downloading.
