In these hours, Google is making the version 89 of Chrome. With the latest update, both security bug fixes and new features are brought to millions of Windows, Max and Linux desktops and also to Android smartphones.
With regard to the safety, always essential when browsing the Web given theincrease in hacker attacks recorded last year, there are 47 flaws closed with patches, eight of which are deemed to be of high severity and one of them already known and exploited by hackers at least once. As for the new functions, however, we point out the new interface to switch from one profile to another and the possibility of setting a more easily graphic theme for each profile. It seems like a small function, but in reality it helps a lot in cases where the computer is used by more people: with a more evident graphic customization, each user will be stimulated to enter their own profile instead of using someone else's. News also for the tabs, with the possibility of search for an open tab, and then there is the arrival also on Windows and Linux of a function already seen on macOS: thereading list.
Chrome 89: the news
With the search among the tabs it is very easy to find an open tab on the fly even among dozens of others: just click on the arrow pointing down and write the name of the site, Chrome will show us all the similar open tabs.
THEreading list, on the other hand, it is managed from the bookmark icon (the star-shaped one): by clicking on it now we can also choose to add the page to the list of those we want to read at another time. The page will be available even if we are offline and we can therefore read it comfortably while traveling.
In some cases these two functions are available but hidden: to activate and use them we will have to go to chrome: // flags / and select “Enabled“ from the drop-down list. The two functions to look for are, respectively, “Enable Tab Search” and “Reading List“.
How to update Chrome
Chrome updates itself, in the background, as Google enables individual copies of the browser to download the update. However, it is also possible to do it manually, by opening the main Chrome menu (the one with the three dots at the top right, near the profile photo) and then going to Settings> About Chrome.
Chrome will start downloading the new update files, install them, and ask us to when finished restart the browser to complete the update.
