Epson: 2011 printers, Stylus SX

There are now three main families of inkjet MFPs at Epson: the Stylus Photo give priority to the photo, the Stylus Office are dedicated to professionals (self-employed, TPE, PME), and the Stylus SX, for individuals who print more texts than photos.

A new printhead has arrived on 3 of the 4 models launched. It is wider than the previous one, it contains more nozzles. It allows potentially higher flow rates, in fewer passes.

Finally, as a reminder, we only report the speeds of printers established according to the ISO standard in force. In their absence, we indicate a brief "NC", for "not communicated", instead of the actual flow of the product. Sorry if some files have holes: we prefer to display only real, useful data.

On the main lines

Epson is supposed to have adopted the ISO standards for the speeds as for the autonomy of its cartridges. Damn, it's actually hard to find this information.

By persevering, going through a site other than Spanish, we found autonomy. It emerges, when we compare them to the price of cartridges, that the more the printer is affordable on the shelves, the more expensive its ink becomes. And again, we base ourselves each time on the maximum capacity cartridges compatible with the printers.

There is thus a cost per page which varies from 15 to 6 cents depending on the product, while the average cost, all printers of all brands combined, is 12,3 cents.

With a cost of 15 cents per page, the SX125 ends up among the most expensive printers to use on the market. The SX218 is almost the same price and less expensive in ink.
