Update January 20, 2021: The 500 error that we experienced at a significant level last December seems to be back in the last few hours and many of you are visiting this page to find information on this outage.
However, it seems less important than the previous time. On the page that allows you to be informed of the status of the various Google services, only Gmail seems to be impacted. On the other hand it is not a general outage but a disruption of service. Google says it is aware of the issue and is investigating crash reports.

Since around 12 noon Spanish time, many Gmail users are encountering a 500 error when trying to access their email account.
The classic Google error page shows a "Temporary error (500)" and an apology message that does not inform about the exact reason for the failure: "Your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable. We apologize. inconvenience caused and we invite you to try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists, consult the Gmail help center".
Google offers a follow-up page regarding this outage. Classified as Outage, this is the highest level of outage offered: "We are aware of an issue with Gmail affecting a majority of users. Affected users are unable to access Gmail. We will provide an update by 14/12/20 13:12 PM indicating when we expect to resolve the issue. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and subject to change."
13:36 p.m. update : the failure is now classified as "Service disruption". Google says Gmail service has been restored for some users and they expect to restore access soon for other users.
Users from all countries seem affected by the increasing number of messages on Twitter, both in Spanish and in foreign languages, with the keywords #googledown or #youtubedown. The problem is present on both computer and mobile (smartphone, tablet).
Do not hesitate to bring your testimony or any useful information in the forum.
