MacBook Pro 2021: a surprise announcement at WWDC?

Apple having presented its Silicon models in November 2020, the next MacBook Pro could soon see major changes.

Indeed, the firm will probably rely on this important update to introduce new designs, features and further improve performance.

To get an idea of Apple's next business laptop, we've rounded up the most credible rumors about it.

MacBook Pro 2021: all the rumors

On Twitter, rumors have revealed minor but significant details about this future MacBook.

iOS developer Dylandkt, who predicted the presence of the M1 chip in the iMac, says the next processor will be called M1X and will feature more thunderbolt channels, processor cores and better battery life.

As 9to5Mac also spotted, the same account reportedly tweeted about the lack of a logo on the screens' bottom bezel.

Price and release of the potential MacBook Pro 2021

According to Mark Gurman, editor at Bloomberg, Apple will introduce the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro Silicon this summer.

According to MacRumors, Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives thinks the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros will be introduced on June 7 at WWDC. Leaker Jon Prosser is also extremely confident about their launch at this conference.

Pricing hasn't leaked, but based on Apple's previous releases, the 16-inch model will likely start at €2, while the 699-inch could replace the 14-inch MacBook Pro at €13. .

Design of the potential MacBook Pro 2021

Mark Gurman reported that Apple will release a "redesigned" MacBook Pro this summer, available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. On the other hand, he did not specify whether the current 1-inch M13 will also undergo design changes.

Analyst Ming Chi-Kuo said in a research note (which appeared on MacRumors) that the laptop will get a redesign in 2021. In an earlier report from May 2020, he claimed that Apple would be working on a MacBook Pro 14 inches.

Jon Prosser also suggested launching an Air version or a reintroduction of the MacBook in different colors, and perhaps with a white frame similar to those of the new 24-inch iMac.

Mini LED screens

In March 2020, Ming Chi-Kuo reported on Apple's use of mini LEDs on new products, including the 14 16-inch and 2021-inch MacBook Pro. This first mini LED display was first integrated on the iPad Pro 12,9 inch.

This technology results in better backlight control, more pleasing image contrast and greater dynamic range. If the brand's description of the iPad Pro is to be believed, this new display will deliver true-to-life detail with a 1:000 contrast ratio and a jaw-dropping 000 nits of brightness.

MagSafe and connectors

Also according to Mark Gurman, the next MacBook Pro will have a MagSafe charger, an SD card slot, an HDMI port and a greater number of Thunderbolt ports. Ming Chi-Kuo even confirmed this idea.

Introduced on Macs in 2006, MagSafe is a magnetic power connector that allows secure charging. Dedicated to power, it then disappeared when Apple switched to USB-C connectors in 2016.

Then, Apple switched to Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports for its M1 Macs, it should continue on this path.

More Touch Bars

Apple introduced the Touch Bar in 2016 to replace physical controls with a glossy, Retina-quality Multi-Touch display.

This is a polarizing feature of high-end MacBook Pro models, but opinions differ on it. In a January 2021 note, Ming-Chi Kuo said the OLED Touch Bar will be replaced with function keys.

Technical characteristics of the potential MacBook Pro 2021

A Twitter rumor has apparently leaked minor but significant details about the configuration of the next MacBook Pro.

As mentioned above, iOS developer Dylandkt is confident that the M1 chip will be updated for the M1X. Apple's upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros will feature a chip that features a 10-core CPU (eight performance cores and two efficiency cores), options of 16 or 32 graphics cores, up to 64GB of memory and an improved neural motor.

According to Mark Gurman, by the end of the year, the 13-inch MacBook Pro will have a new system on a chip that replaces the M1. The new SoC will be faster but will have eight CPU cores (four performance cores, four efficiency cores) like the M1. As for the graphics cores, they will go from eight to ten.

Apple is also rumored to be integrating 5G and support for Face ID.
