A smartwatch does a lot of service. Not having to take your smartphone out of your pocket at each vibration makes it easier to stay focused on your task, for example, as long as you are selective about the notifications that you let appear on your wrist or you will see it vibrate several times. times per minute.
Be careful also to adjust the level of detail of the messages, otherwise you will find yourself in embarrassing situations when an inappropriate message opens automatically in full view of your interlocutor (any resemblance to a situation experienced by your servant would only be coincidental) .
But beyond notifications, connected watches are above all for athletes, whether they are Sunday or more serious. This is where they show their usefulness, loaded with an increasing number of sensors that will allow you to be more efficient in your training. ECG, SpO2, VO2max… if you do not understand their usefulness we explain all that to you here.
These sensors are also being used more and more for health reasons, to the point where they could help diabetics in the near future.
A quick overview of the best connected watches of the moment.
Apple Watch Series 7 The Benchmark Meter
9 / 10 Product sheet See the Amazon test 429 €- A bigger screen that's really nice
- Perfect iOS integration and many apps
- Faster charging
If you have an iPhone and are looking for a smartwatch, there is no need to procrastinate: buy an Apple Watch. The watch is perfectly integrated into the ecosystem of the firm, for a fusional relationship between your iPhone, your smartwatch, and also a little bit your Mac.
L’Apple Watch Series 7 //
The seventh generation of the Apple watch is quite paradoxical since at first glance it is content to increase the size of the screen. However, this development has more important implications than it seems.
The dimensions of the case itself hardly change, with a millimeter more in height and width. However, the display fills this space much more, with a gain of 20% of display area compared to the 6 Series. The result is a watch that is easy to read on a daily basis, especially when paired with an Always mode. On 70% brighter.
The Apple Watch Series 7 screen //
Internally, however, things hardly change. The new processor is content to manage the additional pixels without compromising the autonomy and we find the same very complete selection of sensors. The battery is a little bigger, but this mainly serves to compensate for the increase in screen size. In practice, we hold again a full day, with however a faster charge if we use a charger of 20 W. Thus, we recover 8 hours of autonomy in 8 minutes of charging.
For the software part, watchOS 8 brings a lot of new features that we detail in this watchOS 8 guide.
Not revolutionary, however, this Apple Watch Series 7 is making good progress in terms of format and recharging. It therefore remains our benchmark connected watch.

For smaller budgets: the Apple Watch SE
As with its phones, Apple is playing Doctor Frankenstein and mixing different models to bring down the prices. The Apple Watch SE therefore takes the design of the Series 6 coupled to the Series 5 processor, but skips the always-on screen. There is also the fast charge which allows the battery to be filled in an hour and a half.
If you're not particularly interested in measuring blood oxygenation, the Watch SE is probably the choice for the reason. The Watch Series 3 is still in the market, but it's getting dated. Paying a little more for a newer processor and therefore guaranteeing extended software support is a good calculation in our view.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic The best choice for Android
8 / 10 Product sheet See the Fnac test 339 €- Successful design
- Wear OS brings a lot of apps
- Well thought-out interface
With this fourth generation of Galaxy Watch, Samsung is making a major change in strategy. After years of pushing his Tizen operating system, the Korean returns to the fold of Google and embeds Wear OS 3 in his latest watch. Aesthetically, no revolution, we remain on a design very similar to that of last year. There is also the rotating bezel, which is still very practical for navigating. Nothing to say about the finishes: they are impeccable.

The OLED display is of good quality, with enough brightness to be read comfortably in direct sunlight. If the OS is made in Google, the interface remains similar to Tizen. If the user experience does not change, however, we gain access to a much richer application catalog.
In terms of sensors, we are entitled to everything that is done on a good connected watch, with the added bonus of what to measure the oxygen saturation of the blood, but also an electrocardiogram. Sports tracking is successful, and the presence of the Wear OS ecosystem means that you won't have to worry about using your favorite tracking app. Autonomy is not glorious, with a little more than a day on a charge (which also takes 1h39).
Samsung therefore offers an excellent watch here, which is gaining momentum thanks to Wear OS. Too bad, however, that the autonomy is a little fishy and that some functions are exclusive to Samsung smartphones. To go into more details, read our test of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

Huawei Watch 3 L'alternative sous Harmony OS
8 / 10 Product sheet See the Baker test 279 €- Very successful design
- Harmony OS pleasant to use
- Taking the temperature
After relatively affordable models, Huawei goes upmarket with this Watch 3. This model is also the first of the brand to use HarmonyOS. From an aesthetic point of view, no complaints, Huawei makes a nice copy here. The watch is elegant, very well finished, but above all very impressive. This can also pose concerns for small wrists.
The Huawei Watch 3 connected watch // Source: Idroid
As for the bracelets, several variants ranging from elastomer to steel are available. We find on the edge a digital crown similar to that of the Apple Watch. For its part, the AMOLED panel is bright enough to be read in all circumstances. As for the dials, we will be spoiled for choice, with nearly 300 of them available on the Huawei Health app. Note that most are however chargeable.
For activity monitoring, no complaints, we are entitled to all conventional measures, only the electrocardiogram is missing. More surprisingly: the watch is able to measure the temperature of your skin and therefore warn you in the event of a fever. Battery life is average, with around 3 days of use on one charge.
It remained to be seen what Harmony OS was worth on a watch. And we must admit that the OS is doing well, with a well thought out interface. Unfortunately, there are still very few third-party applications despite the opening of the system to developers.
The Watch 3 is therefore a good product, capable of competing with models from Apple or Samsung. We tell you more in our test of the Huawei Watch 3.

Fitbit Sense The best of health
8 / 10 Product sheet See the Amazon test 227 €- Many sensors
- An excellent application
- Solid autonomy
Known for its activity trackers, Fitbit has also been offering connected watches for a few years with more mixed success. This is why this Sense surprised us very pleasantly with its 100% health approach. It indeed embeds all the sensors available to date.
In addition to the very classic cardiac sensor, we are entitled to an ECG, a temperature sensor and an electrodermal activity sensor or the monitoring of oxygen saturation. Battery life is solid with just over 4 days of use on a charge in our testing.

Beyond its sensors, the Sense offers a simple and qualitative design which despite its thickness makes it very discreet. Health orientation requires, the classic connected functions are quite limited, in particular with regard to third-party applications. This is particularly noticeable for sports apps. The very popular Adidas Running (ex-Runtastic) is therefore missing, it's up to you to check if one of your essential apps is not available.
On the other hand, it shines by the quality of its smartphone application which manages to give meaning to a lot of raw data. These are therefore analyzed and contextualized, with explanations and advice very well put forward. If your primary focus is on keeping track of your health, we just don't get better today. Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro Fine et endurante
8 / 10 Product sheet See the Baker test 179 €- Autonomy and Qi charge
- The right screen
- Successful design
After a Watch GT 2 with excellent value for money, Huawei comes with a GT 2 Pro which evolves more than its name could suggest. First big evolution, the look loses the sport side of its big sister and the design becomes much more sober. As for the bracelet, we remain on a standard 22 mm model and therefore easily replaceable.

Once on the wrist, its finesse (11,4 mm) and its lightness make it easy to forget. The OLED display is of good quality, with sufficient brightness to be readable even in direct sunlight.
The Lite OS operating system is evolving slowly and above all sees its catalog of third-party applications expand a little. Most of the big names are still missing, however. The sports tracking of the watch is generally good, but the GPS is singularly lacking in precision, especially in the city. On the other hand, we appreciate the very good autonomy which reaches without too many worries the week. The charge is now by induction and compatible with all Qi chargers.
On the connectivity side, we are content with Bluetooth, Wifi and 4G being absent subscribers. Despite some weaknesses, the Watch GT2 Pro stands out as a quality watch offered at a reasonable price. You can find his full test here.

Honor Magic Watch 2 The magic touch
8 / 10 Product sheet See the Amazon test 152 €- Excellent autonomy
- High-end finishes
- Lots of measured data
A variation of the Huawei Watch GT2, the Honor Magic incorporates a number of features, but with a few small adjustments, especially at the button level, while retaining the good ideas, but at a more aggressive price. We appreciate in the first place its excellent autonomy, announced by the manufacturer for 14 days; in practice, we lasted a little less than 10 days during our test. This is a good result.
Like all watches from the Huawei group, the Honor Magic Watch runs on Lite OS, visually very sport-oriented, but complete. We will find in the watch, but as a GPS and an optical heart rate sensor in addition to a gyroscope and a magnetometer. She is also able to monitor the number of steps and the time of sleep on a daily basis. These statistics are accessible in the HealthMate app, but it is possible to synchronize them with other sports tracking apps like Google Fit, MyFitnessPal or UP from Jawbone.
The Honor Magic Watch is available in two sizes: 42 or 46mm. We tested the second, which offers greater autonomy. Obviously since the battery is of greater capacity. You can find all the details in our review of the Honor Magic Watch.

withings Steel HR Sport The classic approach
8 / 10 Product sheet See the Amazon test 47 €- Very suitable everywhere
- Configurable notifications
- 20 days of autonomy
The Withings Steel HR Sport has a definite advantage over its competitors: it has LE design most reminiscent of a real tocante. With its chrome hands and its silicone / leather strap, it knows how to be very discreet! If you value looks over features, this is the perfect suitor for your wrist. The small screen embedded in the dial still displays notifications (which can be configured) and information on your physical activity (running, dancing, swimming). Note that in black, the screen blends perfectly with the background (it's more discreet).
The watch also allows analysis of their sleep cycles and offers a convincing silent vibration wake-up call. His data can be synchronized with smartphones thanks to the Health Mate application, compatible with iOS and Android, which allows him to provide advice based on statistics.
We are talking about the Steel Sport HR here, to be distinguished from the “normal” Steel HR model. In addition to having touches of red here and there as well as a breathable strap, the Sport grind stands out for its support for GPS while running, and also estimates the user's VO2 Max.
Note that if you only need notifications, you can opt for the Withings Move ECG. Unlike the Steel HR, it does not have a screen. No notifications, but you keep the heart sensor. Its style is also less sport-oriented, which makes it more versatile. It also has the merit of being cheaper.

Xiaomi Mi Watch Convincing first try
8 / 10 Product sheet See the Amazon test 109 €- Successful design
- Good screen and battery life
- Unable to install third-party apps
Already present in the smartphone and activity tracker market, it was only a matter of time before Xiaomi launched into smartwatches in its own name. The Mi Watch is like the brand's other products: affordable, but well finished and above all quite pretty.
The Xiaomi Mi Watch // Source: Idroid
Beyond its minimalist design, we appreciate the presence of a quality AMOLED screen and an autonomy that easily exceeds the week. Rare thing: GPS tracking is both very fast and precise.
However, it sins in terms of the ecosystem. Indeed, it will be necessary to be satisfied with the applications supplied with the device since the system is not currently open to third parties. It's a shame, because the applications provided are a bit limited outside of health monitoring.
Finally, Xiaomi makes a clean copy, with a watch that is good value for money, but less flexible than its competitors. Find all the details in our full review of the Xiaomi Mi Watch.

Xiaomi Huami Amazfit GTR For small budgets
8 / 10 Product sheet See the Amazon test 65 €- Excellent autonomy
- Aggressive pricing
- Integrated gps
Little known in Spain, Huami is actually the “connected objects” branch of Xiaomi in China. With its Amazfit GTR, the company has managed to keep Xiaomi's tradition of value for money. This is a complete watch, at a relatively low price. So it's a great choice if you want to invest in a smartwatch without breaking the bank too much.
It revolves around a 1,39 OLED screen with a resolution of 326 pixels per inch, the texts are displayed with finesse. The panel is protected by Gorilla Glass to prevent scratches. It is able to follow many activities, starting with running of course, but also swimming since it is waterproof up to 5 ATM.
You can follow your heart rate before, during and after your workouts directly on the watch or the app, which is also complete. Sleep tracking is also part of the game and you can analyze it over several consecutive days since it held a full work week during our test. On the other hand, we must admit that it is imposing on the wrist.
