It was in 2015 that the music streaming service Apple Music made its arrival on the iPhone and iPad. Since then, it has been available on Mac, Apple Watch and CarPlay, but also on Android, PC, Sonos wireless audio systems, PS5 and other devices.
With Apple Music, you can access over 90 million songs and over 30 playlists created according to your musical tastes. You can also listen to the radio and follow the latest music news from your favorite artists.
There are several types of subscription, including Apple Music Voice, which is cheaper than the standard Apple Music plan. There is also a lower rate for students.
- Apple Music Voice: €4,99/month
- Apple Music Student: €4,99/month
- Apple Music Individual: €9,99/month
- Apple Music Family: €14,99/month
- Apple One: from €14,95/month (includes Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud+ and Apple TV+).
However, you don't have to pay that much since Apple offers several trial offers, including one for three months, but which has been reduced to one. However, it is possible to obtain 6 months free with certain purchases.
Find out in this article what trials are available and how to get Apple Music for free right now. Including how to get two months of free Apple Music through Shazam, even if you've had a trial in the past.
Is there a free Apple Music?
You can get Apple Music for free for a limited time, the company offers several trial versions of the service. If you were hoping for Apple to offer a free tier of Apple Music similar to Spotify with ads, then you will be disappointed.
In December 2021, Apple launched Apple Music, which provides access to all music from the original Apple Music service for half the price. We look at the differences between Apple Music and Apple Music Voice in a separate article.
Get a free trial of Apple Music
If you have never tried Apple Music, know that you will be able to benefit from an absolutely free month of trial, without counterpart. Before February 2022, the duration of this trial period was three months, so it is no longer so advantageous...
To take advantage of this month free of charge, go to Apple's Music page and click/tap on the option Free try.
Four formulas are available: Voice, Student, Individual and Family. Each of them can be purchased as a monthly or annual subscription.
If you absolutely don't want to pay for Apple Music after your trial ends, you should make sure to cancel your subscription before it automatically renews.
To do this, from your iPhone, go to Settings, then on your Apple ID. Then tap on Subscriptions, select the one concerned, And then unsubscribe.
From time to time, Apple or its partners offer more than one month free. The company is giving Apple Music six months free if you buy a HomePod, AirPods or Beats headphones.
Get Apple Music Free for 6 Months
Apple promises six months free to new Apple Music users who own AirPods, HomePod mini or Beats headphones. The following devices are eligible:
- AirPods Pro
- AirPods (2nd generation and 3rd generation)
- AirPods Max
- HomePod
- home pod mini
- BeatsFitPro
- Beats Studio Buds
- Powerbeats
- Powerbeats Pro
- Beats Solo Pro
No purchase is necessary, so if you already own one of these eligible devices, you're eligible, as long as you haven't previously subscribed to Apple Music.
However, those who already owned one of the eligible devices had 90 days from the date their device updated to iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 to qualify for the six-month free trial. Which unfortunately means that if the update was made on September 21, that period has now passed.
If you have just purchased any of the above products, you will be eligible for the 6-month free trial, but must be claimed within 90 days of first pairing a new device.
As long as your iPhone or iPad is running the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, you'll be able to activate Apple Music's 6-month trial after pairing your new audio device with your phone or tablet.
Get Apple Music for Free with Shazam
There is another way to get an extended trial of Apple Music, without having to buy anything. All you have to do is download Shazam on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
You don't even have to use the app to identify which song is playing. You will find the limited offer in the recent Shazam section.
- Click on Try.
- You will be prompted to get 2 months free of Apple Music.
- Click on Try it for free and you will be taken to the Apple Music app.
- You will then be prompted to double-click to redeem your gift.
You'll see the date when the free trial will end and you'll be charged (so you might note that you can either cancel just before, or switch to Vocie so you don't have to pay €9,99).
You can finally start listening to Apple Music and enjoy your 2 months free!
At least you could have gotten the five-month free subscription offer if you had never used Apple Music. If you have tested the service before, then the duration of this trial period will be deducted.
Shazam has been owned by Apple for quite some time, which is why it's an Apple Music subscription that's offered.
Get another Apple Music trial
As in the Shazam example above, you may be eligible for an additional two months, even though you've already had a longer trial.
We have seen Apple offer subscribers, who have exhausted their trial period, 3 months access to Apple Music for the price of one, or €9,99.
And, to get an extra 3 months, the solution would be to go through Family Sharing via another user, and use Apple Music's Family Sharing subscription.
If you're happy with it, why not ask a family member to sign up for the Family Sharing free trial (up to 6 people) and then share it with you.
