Google Chrome is ready to launch a new feature that helps the user to do, in just one click the password reset stolen. The novelty, currently in beta testing, could already arrive with the next version of Chrome, the 86 version scheduled for the beginning of October 2020. It would, therefore, be upon us.
This feature, which is very useful for users who have many login credentials to protect, is already known to fans of Apple. The Apple Safari browser, in fact, already in 2018 introduced something similar to defend the usernames and passwords kept in Web Safari version 13 and in the iCloud virtual keychain. On Chrome, on the other hand, the function is a "semi-absolute" novelty, because in reality it is the evolution of something that already exists. of the browser market equal to 68% of web surfers.
Passwords at risk: what's new in Chrome?
What is it about exactly? We start from the functions already present in Chrome: in case of signal data breach, i.e. a data theft from some site that has a database of usernames and passwords, Google Chrome carries out a verification within the portfolio of login credentials saved in the profiles of its users.
If user data is part of that stolen by hackers, then the user is at risk and must change their password. Then Chrome notifies the user to tell him to do it as soon as possible, because that password is dangerous.
Google Chrome: how to change the password
The next step is the news that is coming: when the user receives the notification and clicks it, it is sent directly to the reset page of the compromised password. Everything is provided that the site in question complies with the criteria of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which require the presence of a page dedicated to resetting the password with its own specific URL.
Again, Google Chrome users have to say thank you to Apple, because since the bitten apple introduced the password change feature many sites have adapted and become compliant with W3C rules. The big social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, have also done so.
The current version of Chrome has a very similar function, but less refined: the link that the user can click takes in fact to the home page of the site for which it is necessary to change the access data.
Passwords: why it is important to keep them under control
Thanks to the latest Google feature in chronological order dedicated to data protection, keeping passwords under control and limiting damage in the event of a data breach therefore becomes easier, if not immediate. However, this must not overshadow the good practices of the network: change the password cyclically, do not reuse the same credentials to create accounts on different sites and use passwords of at least medium complexity to avoid the possibility of tempting some eyes. virtual indiscreet.
