Since 2013, Microsoft has replaced the very popular Hotmail email with Outlook. Although Hotmail no longer exists, millions of Internet users still have an account, which they wish to continue using.
Note that it is possible to keep your Hotmail, @MSN or @live.es email address, even if the new Outlook service has supplanted them.
Note, however, that if your address has remained inactive for more than 270 days, Microsoft reserves the right to deactivate your account, or even delete it.
In this tutorial, we show you how to access your old Hotmail account from your Mac and how to use your Microsoft mailboxes via the Mail application.
Check if your Hotmail account is still active

To find out if your Hotmail account is still active, go to www.hotmail.com, you will be automatically redirected to the new Outlook service. Enter your Hotmail address and password as requested.
If you manage to access your Hotmail address, then it means that it is still active.
Outlook

The Outlook service offers you the same functionality as traditional web messaging, namely the sending and receiving of emails and their organization.
If you log into your Hotmail account after 270 days, then you will receive a Welcome message.
You will be advised to switch to Outlook and explained how to import your emails and contacts from other email addresses linked to your Hotmail account.
Note that messaging services (Gmail, Yahoo Mail, iCloud, etc.) use the IMAP protocol. Therefore, you can access your emails from any computer. Importing emails will therefore be very easy.
Merge Hotmail Account to Outlook

Microsoft encourages you to get rid of your old Hotmail account and use Outlook.
To keep your Hotmail address, you can merge it to your new Outlook account.
This will allow you to use both addresses at the same time, and switch to Outlook as you go. To do so, follow the steps presented below.
Create a new Outlook email address

To create a new Outlook address, simply click on your profile icon, located at the top right of your browser.
A drop-down menu with several configuration options appears, click on Modify the profile. Then, in the new window that opens, click Manage your login email or phone number.
Finally, click Add an email address as an alias.
These aliases allow you to use different email addresses, the reply emails will all go to your new Outlook mailbox. Once created, click Add an alias.
Reuse old Hotmail addresses

To prevent Microsoft from deleting your old Hotmail address, use it as an alias address.
To do this, click on the option Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias, enter your Hotmail address, and click Add an alias.
Use your Hotmail and Outlook account from Mail

To use your Microsoft email addresses from the Mail app on your Mac, go to the Check Mail settings page and enter your email.
Apple gives you all the information relating to your accounts (receiving and sending server, their port and authentication mode).
Now run MailAnd in the File tab click on Add an account.
Enter your Hotmail address and your password, select Continue. Finally, at the account summary window, click Create.
That's it, your Hotmail/Outlook account has been added to your Mac's Mail app.
To add an address, click Mail, And then Preferences. In the tab Accounts, click on the sign +, located at the bottom left.
All you have to do is follow the steps described above.
