This method will create a zip file with the extension .zip which is placed at the end of the name of the original element.
What should I do if the Compress option does not work?
If the Compress option is not accessible or not working, it may be restricted by permissions. To check this, open your Finder, then:
- Select your document.
- Click on File.
- Go to Read information (or press and hold the keys Cmd et i).
- Click on Follow us! and permissions.
Among all the users listed as authorized to access this file, check if your name appears and what permissions are displayed under Privilege.
Ideally, you should have your read and write permissions, as they allow you to make changes to the file.
If you are not logged in as an administrator, then:
- Click on thepadlock icon.
- Enter the administrator name and password.
- Change the setting to Reading and writing.
Once this is done, you should be able to use the option Compress.
How to unzip a file in macOS
Otherwise, to decompress a file, simply double-click on it. After that, the operating system will automatically use the unzip function.
