Three new Macs registered by Apple

On February 14, 2022, three new products, with model numbers A2615, A2686 and A2681, appeared in the database of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

These entries even distinguish the type of device concerned. For example, numbers A2615 and A2686 are designated as Mac computers, while device A2681 would be a portable model.

This year, the most obvious candidates for an update are the 27-inch iMac and Mac mini, which still feature Intel chips. But what about the MacBook?

All MacBook models have already switched to the M1, the 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro at the end of 2020 and the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros in October 2021. Since this transition, the 13-inch has been distinguished by its old design. According to some rumors, it could be replaced by a 14-inch model with the same M1 chip.

The appearance of these three updates caused analyst Ross Young to reiterate his prediction for an iMac Pro with mini LED display. According to him, it still won't be launched before June.

I want to believe one of those desktops filed is an iMac Pro.
I really do.@DSCCRoss do you have any info on what any of these three are/when they’re actually arriving? https://t.co/7BqusfFiUB

Of course, that doesn't mean an absence of the iMac in the spring. This may indicate that the 27-inch model will even be offered and that a new iMac Pro will arrive in the summer. However, it would be limited to a Retina 5K display, or slightly larger.

This new iMac could contain one, or even two, M1 Pro/Max as SoC with CPU, GPU and neural cores as well as unified memory.

Still, it's possible Apple is keeping its dual-chip for the ultimate version, which it will equip with a mini LED display like those found on the 12,9-inch iPad Pro and 2021 MacBook Pro.

On January 31, Young hinted that vendors won't have enough mini LED panels to offer until June:

As we reported in today's DSCC Weekly, we no longer expect the Apple iMac Pro to launch in the spring. Looks more like summer. Still with a MiniLED backlight, but fewer MiniLEDs/zones than in iPad/MacBook Pro's.

In a February 14 tweet, Young points out that the brand will equip the display with fewer individually dimmable zones than on the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro.

As a reminder, a month ago new iPhones and iPads were registered with the same Eurasian Economic Commission. It is suspected to be a third generation iPhone SE and a new iPad Air.
